Default Chime wont stop

I have a 99 Civic EX coupe that has a slight beeping problem. Without the key in, the car chimes when the door is open? My headlights arent on so thats not the problem.

This has been doing this ever since I have owned the vehicle (I bought it used) and Im starting to get really tired of it. Is there a door pin that went bad somewhere or something like that? I cant figure out why it chimes when there isnt a key in the ignition of the lights arent on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your car doesn't have a headlight chime so that has nothing to do with it. It sounds like the wiring that would normally use the key to complete the circuit and enable the door chime has been bypassed or the part of the ignition that is depressed when the key is inserted is stuck in the "key is in" position. I honestly don't have a working knowledge of these parts but, based on your problems, this is my 'best guess'.

pratty damn good guess. i have a friend w/ a '95 civic that had that problem. he said that that was exactly what was wrong w/ it. he had our local locksmith fuss w/ it, and eventually, he was able to adjust the lil bumps inside until it stopped. never happened again.

I have a chime that goes off when I leave the lights on and the key out of the ignition.

Then it's been added because, from my memory, Civic's don't have that feature.

So taking it to a locksmith would be the best solution, or is there something I can look for that would allow me to do this on my own?

you could try replacing the ignition switch, but I can't guarantee that that is where the problem is so it's really up to you... :happysad:

that's actually a really good idea. i mean there's no guarantee that the locksmith can fix it, that was juss my buddy's best idea. you could prolly pick up an ignition from a junk yard pretty cheap, and pirate out the ignitions switch. or juss order a new one. call a honda tech @ a local dealership or something, see what they think.

I will do that then. Its just really annoying when you are trying to work on your car or anything like that. I will let you all know how that goes.

Anyone else have any more ideas?
