I've converted mine!

Other than the tranny / ecu / shift linkage that i already gathered with my b-swap.. i only spent like 100 bucks on everything that i Needed.. ( there were added cost to mine coz i took a cable tranny & converted it to hydro, but anyways!)

What's the advantage of converting it to hydro? Brake fluid heats up on the move and you get sloppy gear change

:eh: Uh.... The GM Powerglide is a 2-speed tranny. I don't know which rear end your car had, but it sounds to me like you had a Turbo 350 or Turbo 400 tranny.

Automatics are actually better transmissions for drag racing than manuals are because consistency is the key to winning, not going fast. Automatics will do the same exact thing on every pass, and that wins in bracket racing. I've seen a rented 19 second Neon win $3500 at MIR because he ran his dial-in time all day long.

Automatic imports suffer because of the whole transverse-mounting of the engine, lack the ability to change their main differential's gear ratio, and the fact that they all have wimpy aluminum cased gearboxes. There's nothing wrong with building up the slush box in your import if you have the desire to keep your car's original equipment in tact.

Several people have proven that it CAN be done. Russ Coxe (www.vrcracing.com) competes in NHRA, NDRA and IDRC with an AWD automatic transmission. He's broken more crankshafts than trannys, but he's proved that an automatic import can hang with the big boys. He knows his $#!† when it comes to automatics and holds some world records. Check his build pages out, his car is insane.

Level10 can do everything listed above that 95 Sol mentioned. It will shift faster, better, launch harder, last longer on a boosted setup, and it will cost you a lot of money. An assload of money. Did I mention that it will be expensive? Probably cost a lot, too. My guess is around $2800-$3200 to do it right. It depends on who you are and what you're willing to do to get what you want. I have twice that in my DSM's 5-speed.

so manual is cheaper and a better way then beefing up the auto???where would i find the parts for a manual switch???local junk yard...??? I know you can find good mnual transmissions on ebay, but what about the linkage, cables, shifter, and ecu??(do u have to replace the whole ECU???

P.S.:will my auto hold up fine for while only running 5psi of boost on a greddy kit???
