i actualyl had snapped the cable in the engine bay, so i had to learn to open the hood with a vice grips, what a pain. the new part was $35.

btw, it is so un-****ing believably easy...paying $87 is a joke.
Takumi, so did you end up fixing the cable yourself or are you still using the vice grip? just curious cuz' I was told that it is hard to isntall that.

i changed the one out on my s10...it was like a dozen bolts and some annoying supports, but it was really easy...at one point it was 20 below and i was having to jump a car in the snow and i was on my knees in my good pants trying to pop the hood, i decided it was no longer worth 30 bucks to not have it fixed. it was proly about an hour or two install, but i am VERY slow when i work on my car.

i just cut all the plastic off mine and then took a die to the shaft that was inside the plastic. i don't remember the size of the die for sure i think it was 6mm x 100pitch. then i got a nut and a washer and put them on it. works great, costs all of 40 cents

I am not quite sure if I understand what you are talking about....what do you mean by "die"? Sorry, I am a newbie when it comes to car stuff and I am still trying to learn.

Thanks in advance.

it's the exact oppisit of a tap. it puts threads on metal rods so you can put bolts on them. just like a tap puts threads in holes for bolts.
