Default broken hood popper (plastic)...

Civic 98 LX 60500 Silver.

Situation:

The plastic piece under the driving wheel is broken (you pull that piece of plastic to pop the hood).

Does anybody know if I can replace that plastic piece only? If so, where can I get the parts? or do I need to get the entire wire assembly?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

P.S. Currently I use a plyer to pull the metal piece to pop the trunk..(yeah, I know..it is LAME. )

the only place I know of is honda... you have to get the whole thing, including the cable, but it's under 25 bucks...

I think you can just get the plastic piece, I took mine off the other day... two 10mm bolts. Unless I forgot, it should be able to be swapped. It'll be a B!TCH to replace the whole cable...

I don't think he means #7, I think he means just the plastic lever.

Default HAHAH me too.

Yep i broke mine too. I havent fixed mine yet but i can still pull on the nub that's left to open my hood.

BTW if its hard to pull your hood open look and see how your hood latch and lock deal line up. I found out that mine was unaligned to the right about 4mm. This was making the latch a little tougher to open and was also tweaking my carbonfiber hood on one side. I just loosened and adjusted the lock to line up straight.

Just called my local Honda Service / Parts dept. and they told me that I have to get the entire release cable assembly (for ~17 bucks) and the labor is about 87 dollars to install it. So all in all, it will cost me 100 bucks.

I would like to know how hard it is to install the cable assembly myself...please advice.

i don't know but can't you just buy the 17 dollar piece and then unbolt the plastic piece and retool it on to the car? instead of replacing the cable too?

on my s10 the cable was crimped on, there was no way to do one or the other, you had to do both...

i actualyl had snapped the cable in the engine bay, so i had to learn to open the hood with a vice grips, what a pain. the new part was $35.

btw, it is so un-****ing believably easy...paying $87 is a joke.
