what does the crankcase filter do?

Default what does the crankcase filter do?

what is the purpose of having a crankcase filter? ive seen it on a bunch of cars, but done know what it does. any performance value? sound? gas mileage?

would it do any good on my 96 hx?

Crankcase filters are useless, theyre there for looks. No performance, and no sound. Within the crankcase, what you want is vacuum. If you remove that line that connects the intake to the valve cover, and replace them with filters, you're losing your vacuum source within the crankcase.

The only way they can be effective is on a turbo'd motor where there's no intake pipe to run a line to.

You should leave it connected to your intake unless you have a specific reason not to.

Yeah, its more or less useless unless you have a reason, but its not detrimental either.
