they help for the exhaust gases to exit more freely. you would probebly gain 2-3 horsepower though. dont get the ones off of ebay though because you wont pass emissions with them because they are basically resonators.

muffler shop, or get a name brand one off ebay..

what i find works: stock cat. for emissions.. and a test pipe on regularly. takes 10 mins to swap out for emissions.

I woldnt trust ebay, just go to a local shop and ask them. Shop and compare before you buy.

P.S. ewood87, what do you drive?

i drive a '93 civic lx as of yesterday.. i used to own a turbo accord, a gsr, and a 1st gen teg w/ some mods but im done being stupid and street racing, just ruins my cars.

by the way, if you dont want to go the test pipe route and your looking for performance.. put a little bypass right after the downpipe/header that you can switch (iv seen some electronic from the cockpit) and it basically opens up your exhaust right after the header.. throw one of these on with a nice header and the stock cat/cat-back and you got a sleeper. sorry thats a bit off topic, but just lettin you know all your options.

i bought an aerospeed hi-flow cat from a buddy for like $50 bucks. surprisingly enough, there was a noticable difference. the biggest thing you'd notice is the noise, it changes your exhaust note slightly and makes it all louder. but there is a lil more pull to it now.

I put a test pipe in and felt some difference. I do the swap for emissions method, it actaully might pass without it too, mine did.
