Swap or Rebuild?

Swap or Rebuild?
I have an engine lined up that i was told was a type R. After I drove up there I checked the engine number wich was: B18A1, I crossreferenced it and found it was an Acura GS motor 130bhp(only 5 more than my stock d16z6)
So should I do the swap for $1000 (full swap) or just build up my d16z6? I really just wanna get my car up and running again. I think i might have a blown head gasket or fried piston rings. It smokes like crazy now and boggs down often.

Well if the guy selling the engine told you it was a type-R and then he let you drive all the way there and then check the engine to see it wasnt a type-R but is a obd0 ls, then I would tell him to shove it up his ass because if he would lie about that then he could easily lie about the engine's condition, the transmission's condition, etc.. But if I misunderstood and he didnt lie to you, I would still build the d16 before buying the obd0 integra engine.

if it still has a cable tranny, fuck it. no point. You'd be spending another $350 on the conversion kit, or 400 on a tranny. you can get b18b1 swaps for that. Newer, more likely has lower miles, and it's obd1 so it's plug and play.
If all you need is a head gasket, that's a couple hours to get you back on the road, 30 bucks for the gasket, and a few bucks for coolant. If that doesn't take care of your issue, the only things left are valve seals and rings.
The problem with most people rebuilding is that they don't make sure the head and deck are straight, they have high mileage engines that they don't rehone, they use cheap ass rings, bearings, etc. Do it right if you're gonna do it. I'd spend the grand on rebuilding before I'd spend it on a b18a1. Then you can boost it safely with a junkyard setup for a few hundred, and have more power than the B.
