Default Tranny or Synchro's?

Ok, so i was driving my car yesterday while on a 2 hour trip, and i had a little bit of a problem with my gears. when i at a dead stop at a light, i tried to shift into first gear and i couldn't get it into first, so i had to start out in second, later at another light i was fine getting into first, then it happened again another time, so i don't know what the deal is...it seems like it might be a tranny prob, because every once and a while i noticed a little grinding going into 5th...ontop of that the tranny never lets me into 1st if i'm going over 10mph which is really annoying i get a nasty gear grinding noise even when the clutch is to the floor, so i'm thinking about swapping out my tranny for another one i have laying around. i just wanted to get some opinions, do you think it could be the synchro's and not the tranny? i don't have a whole lot of knowledge in this area so i wanted to investigate a little before i start rippin stuff apart. thanks guys.

Synchros usually are more of a grinding and will gradually get worse............that sounds like u might have a problem with a gear

The guy i bought the car from swaped in a D15B7 from his old car and he said he replaced the clutch, but i am starting to doubt that. the engine/tranny combo has 155k on it.

alright, so if it is my synchro's where are they and how to fix? i'll do a search to see what i can find. thanks guys. keep in mind i also have another d15b7 with 90k on it along with another DX tranny as well as a brand new clutch kit. thanks guys

It could be the linkage or shifter bushings. Hondas Don't go into first gear at 10 mph, It is a safety thing.

i used to have the same problem. turned out that my clutch is worned out. I got the clutch replaced and it doesnt grind anymore when i change gear. If your clutch is brand new then there's something wrong with your clutch master cylinder.
