Tranny or Synchro's?

Ok, so i was driving my car yesterday while on a 2 hour trip, and i had a little bit of a problem with my gears. when i at a dead stop at a light, i tried to shift into first gear and i couldn't get it into first, so i had to start out in second, later at another light i was fine getting into first, then it happened again another time, so i don't know what the deal is...it seems like it might be a tranny prob, because every once and a while i noticed a little grinding going into 5th...ontop of that the tranny never lets me into 1st if i'm going over 10mph which is really annoying i get a nasty gear grinding noise even when the clutch is to the floor, so i'm thinking about swapping out my tranny for another one i have laying around. i just wanted to get some opinions, do you think it could be the synchro's and not the tranny? i don't have a whole lot of knowledge in this area so i wanted to investigate a little before i start rippin stuff apart. thanks guys.

Synchros usually are more of a grinding and will gradually get worse............that sounds like u might have a problem with a gear

It sounds like the synchros, Is your clutch old?? If so I could be a combo of both

The guy i bought the car from swaped in a D15B7 from his old car and he said he replaced the clutch, but i am starting to doubt that. the engine/tranny combo has 155k on it.

alright, so if it is my synchro's where are they and how to fix? i'll do a search to see what i can find. thanks guys. keep in mind i also have another d15b7 with 90k on it along with another DX tranny as well as a brand new clutch kit. thanks guys

It could be the linkage or shifter bushings. Hondas Don't go into first gear at 10 mph, It is a safety thing.

almost same thing yesterday... i was accelerating hard and from first goin to second i heard a grinding noise... but i had clutch in so i dunno why that happend..

i used to have the same problem. turned out that my clutch is worned out. I got the clutch replaced and it doesnt grind anymore when i change gear. If your clutch is brand new then there's something wrong with your clutch master cylinder.

mm...maybe it is the clutch...well...while i'm in there changin the clutch...i'll change out my tranny too since i got an extra one....hopefully that'll solve it...if that's not it then i'll swap out my clutch master cylinder...thanks guys
