Its funny how that works. But these type of people just look at it this way. Why pay alot of money to do something right when i can do it half assed and complain about it later when it turns into shit.

R-134a is harmless but still. I think there is $5000.00 fine for that federal offence thing.

No, it's not. It's not nearly as harmful as CFC-12, but HFC-134a is still considered a contributor to global warming. HFC-134a is also illegal to vent to the atmosphere, with the same punishment as venting CFC-12.

I'm EPA/ASE certified to handle refridgerants.

Well just because that shop is in the wrong, it doesn't make it right for you. I do beilve that a evac is a half hour worth of work, so that means that it wont be that bad on cost. The only reason think " oh i thought it was harmless", or " SO and SO does it" is b/c not enough people get caught, therefore never get charged.

Yeah, plus the shop won't mind doing it on older cars because R-12 can be sold at $80 a pound. That's assuming it hasn't been contaminated with R-134a, R-22, etc.

I'm sure a lot of shadey shops will vent R-134a because it's only worth $7 a pound. It's still highly illegal though.
