Default gsr power?

Ok, I am little confuse. I bought a 95 civic with 94 gsr swap (3" pipe, greddy from from to tailpip ) and happy until I drove a friend 99 civic ex. My friend's car got better pickup than mine at 1st and 2nd gear. My car only make power at about 4000 rpm. I thought the 3" pipe all the way back would make some serious power in this case is the opposite.
thanks!

3" exhaust piping is huge for a N/A B18C1.
2 1/4" to 2 1/2" is about right..

theres a lot of articles about this. too small diameter and it restricts air flow. too large diameter piping and the exhaust pulses dont come out with velocity. hard to explain, do some searching. but 3" is used more often on FI engines, i dont know of anyone with a gsr engine that has a 3" exhaust because it is too big and is actually slower than say a 2 1/4" exhaust.

With piping that large, your exhaust is stagnating in the piping. That will result in extreme loss of torque, which you are obviously experiencing.

A 300 whp turbo GSR will be fine with 3 inch piping, but any N/A setup will greatly suffer from anything that big. Since I don't know the other mods you have, I suggest you put a 60mm piping catback system on to regain exhaust flow and torque.

Bigger is not always better in this case.

I dont know what size the muffler I got from the 94 integra. Looks just like the same as 95 ex civic. I could not get the pipe between the cat and muffler (oem). If I happen to find 1, how would I make it fit the greddy 3" pipe. Now the question is which route should I take? Should I go turbo since I already got greddy from front to back (I dont know what the guy before me was thinking putting 3" all the way back).
Or switch to the oem gsr or type r all the way back. If I go turbo how much $$$ am I looking at? Is it hard to tune? Can it be plug and Play. I dont need monster power. Just about 240.
thanks!

The stock piping will not bolt up to any 3" exhaust. If you are going to replace the piping, just replace the whole system with a properly suited catback system with 60 mm piping.

As for the turbo route, don't do it because your exhaust is made for it. Even with a small turbo, the exhaust will be overkill. As for your other questions about turbo, do a search as those questions have been covered countless times on this forum.

About the turbo, I guess I just never done it before and scare. I did the search when I was on the forum about supra for 2 years. I am a supra fan (sorry about that) use to own 3 1985 and 90 turbo. Also a huge fan for rx7. In fact my civic feels like the rotory engine. cuz rotory doesnt make real horse until over 4000 rpm.
thanks!

It isn't really something to be afraid of. The GSR engine is a very strong engine and will do well with the turbo assuming the setup is right and it is properly tuned. If you have some burning questions, you can PM me if you want.

And there is nothing wrong with Supras or RX-7's. If I could afford either, I would make that my power house and the GSR my daily beater.
