In my D16 there is about 3 1/2 quarts. If you put to much in, you will blow the engine. Make sure the oil is between the lines on the dipstick

Spec is 4.2 quarts drain and refill with new filter, oil needs to be checked when the car has NOT been running because the mark is for when the sump is full, after running there is a lot of oil in the upper part of the engine which gives a false reading. My manual says to run 10w30.
