Default Civic Engine Types

I'm just trying to get to know my 02 Civic Ex a little better, and Civics in general better. Where can I learn about the different engine types out there, and which one might be in my car? I see a lot of "b02" or something close to that being thrown around a lot, would just like to know what it all means.

D series is the most common motor found in civics. The B series began life in the JDM CRX SIR, Honda civic SIR, Integra etc etc.

The only two instinces of naturally occuring B series in USDM Honda are the Del sol and 99-00 civic Si whcih contained the b16a3 and b16a2 repectively.

Is this why people seem to be swapping their Civics with these engines moreso than others? Those seem to be the most abundant swaps I've seen anyway.

The b16a in one form or another was produced from 1988-89(correct me if I am wrong its been a while) until 2000. There are ALOT of them out there and the cheapest of the B series swaps. They are easily fitted to different years and body style civics, and are considered the "power" motors along with its newer bigger brother the b18c. There is also the B18b and b18a along with the b20b and b20z which are all dual overhead cam but non vtec. Lots of people like to boost these due to how cheap they are and there relatively low compression ratios.

here is a basic quick sorta guide

B16a - longest running conventional B series motor. depending on generation rated between 160 and 170hp.
b16b - found in the JDM civic type R 185hp rare expensive
b18c1 USDM integra GSR motor 170hp
b18c5 USDM integra type R motor 200hp I think
b18c JDM integra Sir-G 180hp
b18cR JDM integra type R 210 hp.....mite be 200 and usdm 190 but you get the gist.
b18a - obd0 dual overhead non vtec motor found in second gen tegs
b18b - obd1-obd2 integra LS motor
b20z - CRV motor
b20b - same as about but with lower compression.

now....90% of parts will cross between each other in the B series....they are especially popular to switch among the DOHC VTEC motors, but a newer craze has been mating the non vtec bottom ends with the heads from the dohc VTEC motors...these are frankenstein motors refered to as CRVTEC and LS/VTEC conversions...search if you would like to know more about these......uhhhhhh anything else? sorry I couldnt get more in depth

edit: mite as well break down the b16a's before that comes into play

b16a first gen - found only in the JDM CRX SiR and JDM civic SiR and integra Xsi and a couple other JDM tegs...obd-0 very popular for the pre 92 civic guys realy cheap and have cable trans.

b16a second gen - found in the 92-95 civic SiR and CRX SiR (del sol)

b16a third gen - found in the 96+ civic SiR

b16a3 - found in del sol

b16a2 - found in the 99-00 Si

all b16a's aside from first gen use a hydraulic trans setup
edit edit:

there is also the b17a which was only found in the USDM 93 integra GSR
