I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to prevent this from rusting more: Is there any kind of paint or something I can put on it?

You'll have to clean off all the rust with a wire brush, then paint it with BBQ paint. Anyone know anything else he could do?

Sand/grind all the rust away, and paint it is about the only option. A better option is to have it all stainless steel so it won't rust.

I've heard about people grounding a zinc block to the chassie. They do it in the navy to prevent rust on the ships. won't eliminate all rust, but a large portion will transfer to the block.

I think Jefro made a thread on this a while back.

or you could move south. no rust on my car

If you get stainless steel exhaust, everything is stainless except the welds. The welds begin to rust first as in your photos and then spreads to the exhaust which makes a hole. This has always been a problem for me anyways. Use a circular wirebrush on the end of a drill. That rust will be gone in no time. Maybe use hi temperature paint like the kind they sell for painting calipers. The stock pipe between the cat and the exhaust usually has a splash guard welded to the pipe which protects it better.
