i have a question "What would be the steps on installing a Tachometer on a 2000 Civic EX or... would it be worth it to have someone else install it for you ?

Actually I just installed one one my 97 hatch. Its pretty easy. just cut the wire from the back of the tach. then I think for auto-meter they have 3 wires? the red(positive) black (negative\ground) tachometer wire(dunno what color).
the black ground can pretty much be screwed into anywhere where there is metal from the frame of the car. The positive needs to only be energized while the car is in the "on" position. For this you tap into the ignition wire. Follow it from your ignition (where you put the key in)one of those wires will be a pretty think yellow wire. thats the wire you need to tap into. for the dash lighting wire, I just tapped it into the same wire as the positive wire, so now my tach is lit up when the engine is on, whether or not my dash lights are on.

I think there are alot of do it yourselfs online. just type it in in google.

all of the wires you need are right behind the cluster. Simply splice into them, no cutting involved.

Yellow - power - red on tach
black - ground - black on tach
blue - tach signal - green (I think) on the tach
red - negative dash lights - not sure what color on tach
red/black - positive dash lights - not sure what color wire on tach

yes the wires are there.... BTW, the wire colors I listed were for a '00 civic. They may not be the same for a '96, I'd look but I don't have the manual for a '96 right now.

its no different. pull off the a pillar mount the tach then find our accesory wire, ground, parking lights and tach wire.

the accesory you can find under the dash in the harness coming off the key cylinder

ground any metal that is attached to the chase

parking lights ar a red with black wire found in the kick panel

and the tach you can find in the dignostic plug under the hood its a blue wire
or at the ignition coil.

all honda wires are the same untill you get to 2006 then they change just slightly
