Default Brakes go out randomly....

Hey guys....

recently put in a set of KYB AGX's and H&R Sports.... i noticed when i put them back in, my brakes work sporadically...

they are fine if i drive in straight line or turn slightly, but if i crank the wheel all the way either direction, i lose them altogether... the pedal just falls to the floor. the only cure for it is to straighten out the wheels, and pump the brake pedal... they slowly come back. at first i thought the lines were getting pinched by the tires as they turned in the wells...

so i jacked the car up, took the wheels off, and tie-wrapped the lines to the shocks to make sure they didn't get in the way.

i did another test run and have the SAME problem!! so that didn't help it.

bottom line is i can't make u-turns, go through drive-thru's, or parallel park (or sometimes even regular park). its kinda hairy because i have my newborn in the car sometimes... really don't feel safe.

i want to know if anyone here has any suggestions so i might save myself a couple hundred bucks going to midas or something...

thanks!

Well, I don't know what KYB AGX's and H&R Sports are, I assume suspension stuff? I'd check to see if your calipers are hitting at full lock. Sounds like one of them (depending on the direction of the turn) is hitting somewhere and pushing the piston into the caliper.

Pull your wheels off and turn the thing full lock and take a look at where your calipers are sitting.

one of my hatchies do the same thing.Kinda like if the pressure just goes right? It only happens when your turn the wheel tight. It was one of the lines was cracked.

check your brake lines you probably cracked it while changing the suspension or it probably got routed the wrong way.

it could be a busted line, or possibly even just air in the lines. first bleed them bitches and if that doesnt fix it, get some new lines. might as well get braided, there very nice and you feel a difference and flush out the old fluid.
brake fluid gets very hot and it can get condensation in it which breaks it down very fast so new fluid is a must.
good luck

thanks guys for all the recommendations... i just went ahead and ordered all new SS braided brake lines.

since i'm going to fix it, i might as well do it right. besides, the new lines will work well with the new rotors and pads anyway.

thanks!

How do you know thats what it was though? Were you leaking a signifigant amount of hydraulic fluid?

Even though  on the ss braided lines, mine were a bitch to install because of all the 240k miles of road grime, but I don't regret it

heh, thats why i'm not going to do the brake install

i did the suspension, and that was a bear. brakes is nothing to play around with, plus i don't have the tools to replace the brakes... so i might as well ante up and have it done right.

and to be honest, i don't know that is what it was for sure (the problem), but at least a professional brake shop will do it right, so when they replace everything, chances are that will fix it. if it doesn't, i can always bring it back to them and say "my brakes used to work and now they don't!!!"

if you did the suspension, why wouldnt you be able to do the brakes? all you need are a few sockets and a couple wrenchs. and for bleeding all you need is a tube, a stryofoam cup and some frsh fluid. do it yourself, that way you know how to do it and you wont cut corners like a "professional" might and probably will do
