Default NEEDS HELP!!! 1996 civic ex

I've recently picked up a 96' EX and have since bolted on an Injen SRI and a 2 1/4" Magnaflow cat-back with a Thrush glass pack. I am completely frozen right now on which way I want to go with the car. I can't stand the D17 SOHC that's in it right now, so i'm most likely looking at a motor-swap (unless some one can explain an LS-VTEC to me, CRVTEC etc.) I'm posting to hear everyone's 2 cents on the best way to gain horse power

Anything from $300 - $My Soul

LS-VTEC and CRVTEC are just frankinstien engines, variations of heads and blocks, ie. CRVTEC is usallay a b16 head on a b20 crv block. i would recommed a b18c1 lots of options and potential, also might want to consider turboing the sohc that you have now. its up to you

btw: your car doesnt have a d17 its a d16y8

is the b18c the Type R motor? (curious)

and I've heard that's a bitch to put in my car, at least compared to the b16

theres two variants of teh b18c, one is from the integra sir which is equivilant to the gsr here and then the b18c type r, and both not anymore difficult to put than a b16 in a civic, just the wiring and what obd version you want to run will you run into major problems

They are not major problems. i did a 00 b16a2 Si in my 98 dx coupe with no probs. i used a 98 ex wireing harness and a 98 gsr ecu and it went great for YEARS. I got 165 whp out of it and now i am rebuilding/replacing the block for a poor mans type-r set up.

long Story Short, a dohc swap would be best. Everyones done them, so all your info is obtainable. What you should do is a K series swap. I know quite a few friends with big smiles on their faces now because they switched from the b series to the k series engins!

yeah its not a major problem for everyone but it can, but since we have so much info on wiring issues its gotten better, but still does happen, just want to throw it out there so he wouldnt be expecting something unexpectedly

Please tell me you didn't really put glass packs on your car

IMO I would personally do a B18B motor swap and then boost the piss out of it
