Default SOHC VTEC Swap Question

I have a 97 CX Hatchback with the D16Y7 non-vtec engine. I was planning on going with a NA build with high compression. I was wondering if I should go with this engine or a SOHC Vtec D16? Or if its possible, can I just swap the head of a SOHC Vtec D16 into the D16Y7 I have? Would it be just better if i just swap the whole engine? How much would it cost?

You can put the Y8 head on the Y7 block. It's called a minime. Not sure on the price...

i've priced out a mini-me for a b7 block and z6 head: a z6 head, ECU.all the gaskets,a ex tranny for around $700.

Give or take what deals you can find

Hope this helps

I remember about two years ago, I was looking into a Mini-me swap, but after I calculated all the costs, it would be cheaper to just swap in a whole SOHC VTEC motor.

The only time a mini-me is worth it, IMO, is when you have a spare VTEC head lying around with all the parts.

What's your budget and how much power do you want in the end?

do an ask jeeves search,"How do I put a D16Z6 head on a D15B7 block?" I have two great sites but for some reason wont let me shorten the url on it, they are on there, one is a honda-tech.com website and the other is a personal page but contain the same information

you could always upgrade the valvetrain and do all of the bolt-ons with the exception of forced induction due to the weak rods in the D15B7 block
the mini-me was meant to be a n/a set-up due to the 10.8:1 compression(i believe)
that may be able to get you to your 150-180 hp goal

Drop in some dohc zc pistons with the y8 head and you will get some really good hp numbers.
