Default removing air vents from dashboard

I know this is the "Civic" area but I figured I might find an answer here since the CRX shares so much with a regular Civic.
I'm almost done with a '90 to '91 interior swap on a CRX. I can't figure out how to remove the driver's and passenger's air vents from the dashboard without damaging them. There's a clip on either side of the vent that holds it in but you can't get to them because the outer edges of the vent stick out too far to weasel in behind them. Anyone have any input? Should I just bust them out and order new ones?? (The fins in the old vents are already broken but I wanted to remove some good ones out of my other CRX)
