Default Engine reving higher than normal

My sister's car is revving higher than normal. She told me that when the car is stopped it is revving around 3000rpms. She lets it warm up for over 5 min in the mornings. Could it be the timing belt, thermostat? I'm just not sure.

when it revs up to 3000 RPM's, is that when the car is fully warmed up or is that cold start?

maybe a plugged filter or stuck throttle cable? :idunno:

i had mine idle high when the engine was warm, found out i knocked a vacuum hose loose when i was working on it, check to see if all the hoses to the manifold are connected and no leaks can be found

does anyone think it could be the transmission she drives an automatic? I will check the hoses though.

I would check a throttle. Open a hood and force it to closed position manually.

If it does it when shes stopped then I doubt it's the tranny, more than likely it's a vacuum leak.

No. Her transmission is engaging hard and operating like crap because it's being shifted at 3000 RPMs. You have a classic example of an intake leak.
