Default Gear not engaging?

So I have a 1994 Honda Civic 5 speed manuel.
Every now and again, not all the time, it will not engage the gear it is in.
This is most prevelent when I am at a stop sign and the light turns green, I will be in first giving it gas, but it acts like it is in neutral, It just revs.
A friend suggested replacing the clutch disc which I did, but the problem is still their.
Any suggestions?

Did it just start doing it or has it always done it? Are you sure you're pushing the shifter all the way into the gear? Can you feel it go into gear and it still won't go when you release the clutch? Be as detailed as possible.

I has been doing now for about 1 year and a half. At first very little, and now at least once a day when driving. The gear is completely in. I can feel it go in. It just revs like it is in nuetral and then it just engages. Sometimes it happens when I am shifting into second. The clutch feels fine, not loose or free at all. I don't get it.
Mostly it happens like I said at stop signs when you are going from a stop, but at times second and even third. Never at start up or when cold.

Have you checked your slave cylinder? Is your clutch fluid at the correct level? It does sound clutch related, but it may be internal to the tranny since you are able to get it into gear and it doens't start pulling on you before you release the clutch.

Fluids are fine. Somebody else mentioned the slave cylinder as well. I will check that and move on from there. Thanks for the suggestions.

NP, it still doesn't explain why the gear would go in with the clutch engaged since the slave cylinder controls that. Also, if it were the slave cylinder it would do it in all gears, not just first... that's a tough one man.

No kidding its a tough one. It does do it in all gears but it is more prevelent in first and second. I'm going to play around with it and try to narrow the problem down.

if you want to suck it up and pay $70, the dealership will diagnose it :dunno:

personally, I know of a good honda/acura repair shop that does free diagnostics. Look in the yellow pages for something similar, if it would help.

If it does it in all gears, it might be the slave cylinder...
