where do I go from here
In your opinion, what is a good price for a full manual transmission setup. No labor included.
I would be trying to get the most common, but best tranmission for my car, so maybe it would be the ex tranny. I'm not sure what is more common (the ex or si). Seems to me that I see a lot more EX's around than Si's.
And the ecu chips I'm talking about are actually burned copies of programs. So the price is very cheap. The ones on Ebay are twenty bucks. I believe the ones from the private sellers I've met on Honda-Tech are also $20. So the price is definitly not an issue. It is more of a question of if they would actually do anything for me besides run through my gas like it was water.

These chips absolutely suck, hands down. True, a Mugen or Skunk 2 program is a tuned program, but NOT FOR A STOCK ENGINE. They are tuned for heavily built engines with serious modification to EVERYTHING including high compression ratios and very high octane gas. They will advance the heck out of your ignition timing, most likely causing pinging or knocking. And no, dumping more gas in the engine is not the correct way to make more power.

I still am curious if there is a way to get a more "mild" tuned chip. I guess I would have to find someone who has a custom chip made for a stock motor with I/H/E mods. Maybe if someone already has a tuned chip I could get a copy from them...
Does this sound like something that is possible?

you'll never get anywhere nickel and diming your car.
the fact is you got an automatic non vtec 1.5L that wasnt meant to go fast.
you could always sell teh 4door, and get an manual EX 4 door with a lil more punch to it.
