Default does the d16y8 respond well to mods?

i was wondering how well these engines respond to the basic bolt on mods, header, intake, and maybe a cam etc... from what ive learned about the ford 2.3 they dont respond too well to mods like a new cam shaft unless its the maf engine i believe.. im just curious to how well these engines respond to new parts and if they are worth the money...i know turbo is really the only noticable huge gain, but thats a little outta the pic for the time being..i need to get the car first for one

Y8's are just not powerful engines. Sure you can see some nice little gains by slapping stuff on them, but those are type of gains you see on a dyno and don't really feel.
An intake and exhaust will free it up some, and it'll sound better, but I'm not sure a cam would be worth the time and money.
Also, welcome to HAN.

i got another question..what is vtec? i know its and engine, but a friend of mine said something about when the vtec kicks in is when the car will start to take off better... the way he explained it was that at a certain rpm the vtec kicks in and gives the engine whatever it has to perform...like a turbo in a way, i know its a long shot from turbo but in the same effect that a turbo performs once brought to a higher rpm

mostly sound with the i/h/e combo, along with some psychological stuff. It really is hard to tell the diff. with a less than 10hp gain overall. Sure, it'll be a lot more fun to drive - but that's about it . You'll need to do something a little more serious to start getting a good feel out of everything. Don't get me wrong thouhg, and i/h/e car will still feel and sound a lot faster than a stocker, and be more fun for the driver to drive.
