Default B-series Motor mount question

ok guys, below you will see a B-series Passenger side motor mount. It's not the greatest picture but you get the idea. I'm sure you guys have noticed the stupid looking bracket that is bolted to both sides of the top of the mount. I'm wondering if that's just for some kinda generic extra stability for the mount or does it actually serve a purpose for something other than looking strange in my car?

I was wondering this too when i was swapping in my b16. It's just a small bracket with 2 10mm bolts holding it on. I'm guessing it helps the mount to be stronger because the top half of the mount isn't connected... Dunno why the honda engineers wouldn't design it better though

I've always thought it had something to do with the OEM intake or ABS... the top of it is flat, and the way it sits in there is almost horizontal to the rest of the car.... like something could sit on it or could rub on it...

OEM intake box sits on top of that in an Integra I believe but I don't know for sure.
