Default tach problems...idle/rpm band

i wired up my autometer tach following basically all the instructions that i was given to the blue/blue wire on the coilpack ..and i cut one wire..etc..etc but when i started the car the rpm would start at about 3 grand and when it hit the gas it would move way faster than normal and it would pass the 10 line and keep goin to dead end..and it would sit...

then i tried to run the signal wire to the blue wire coming out of the back of the gauge cluster.. nothing...

-- now i have the tach removed and i have an apexi safc2 ..and i ran it to the same blue/blue wire and it did the same thing...rpm's way to high and when i hit the gas it would jump stupidly high and not be the same as the stock tach in the cluster..it would be way over...

if any one has any idea how to fix this ...please let me know

also i have a bad o2 sensor and im missing my air mass sensor that plugs into the intake..but i dont see how either of those could affect anything other than throwing the CEL...

oh and btw i have a CIVIC LX wtih a D16Y7

Sounds like the autometer tach was wired for a 6/8 cylinder instead of 4.

when you get the autometer tach its supposed to have the 2 looped wires, for a 4 cylinder application you're supposed to cut both wires.
