Default Power windows working intermittently

sometimes, they'll work fine. Other times, they won't work.

when they don't work, I can get them to work by opening the door.

I checked the harness going into the main driver window controls, and its firmly in place. I did notice a little gunk, and maybe should clean it, but its still making good connection.

I looked at the wire loom that runs through the hinge area and it looked fine, but I haven't really taken appart the door yet to look over it.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

if it works intermitently, then it cant be the relay.

what conditions are it usually under when they dont work?

if you have about an hour a wiring diagram and a test light then you should be able to track it down fairly easily. I have money on a loose connection at a connector, or a warn wire cover that is grounding out.

I'm just bugged out why they will work again when the door opens.

like tonight, I would try to activate them with the door closed, and nothing. Then I'd open the door, and they'd work. But then I'd close it, and again, nothing.

its not the relay...if the relay was bad then they would never work, not just intermittenly. All a relay does is use low current to control high current. It uses an elecromagnet to pull a switch over to complete a circuit. If it was bad, then it would never allow the windows to work because it wouldnt be able to control the high current flow and it would remain an open circuit at all times.

I would bet that when you close the door, you are pinching, grounding the power wire to your switch. Have you tried using the other power window buttons that are not attached to the master switch? next time they dont work, reach over tot passanger side and see if that window works, but not the master switch

they don't work in parallel.

well, I'm fairly certain its wired in series... If I can't roll them down, none of the controls will work.... I noticed it did that when I took apart my doors to install my components
