Hatch: 4th Gear
I went to english town and raced my car with no problems got home fine. Now the next mornin when i start to drive. 1 too 2 too 3 and then i went to throw it in forth it made a big ass noise. so i put it bk in 3rd and kept going. My 4th gear is gone it won't go in for nuthin but all other gears r fine. Should i countinue to drive the car? or do u guys think the the tranny can give out at anytime? should i get 4th rebuild? or just get another tranny? I got a GS-R Also only when i drive the tranny makes a noise when i stop it's fine. Any suggestion?
that's the thing non of the gears are grindin! when i try to put it into 4th it just won't go in it's like a wall it's not letting it go in! i don't no any suggestions + advice will be helpful?
Dam any suggestions should i get a new tranny? should i get 4th rebulit? i'm going turbo soon should i get a LS tranny or go for another GS-R tranny for my GS-R or should i get a B16 or Type R?
if you get your 4th gear rebuilt it will probebly be cheaper in the long run to do the whole tranny. if you're going to be putting down huge numbers with turbo then yes i would suggest the LS tranny but if its going to be your daily driver i would just go with the GSR tranny. i would just get they tranny rebuilt because you would have all new gears so you'll start off with brand new gears when you boost it.
yea that's the thing i use the car daily to go to work. now for a temporary tranny would LS be fine. I never had a tranny rebuilt would u kno how much that job cost me? a estimate?
i dont really know the normal cost for a tranny rebuild but i got mine done for about 200, but my friends dad did it for me. a temp. LS would be fine. the gear ratios are just a little longer than the GSR trannies gears.
Compared to other imports, Honda transmissions are a pain in the ass to rebuild. It's probably a lot less hassle and a hell of a lot cheaper to just get a used tranny with a warranty and swap 'em. Just make sure the junkyard gets the make/model right. No reason you couldn't pull it off for around $250-$350 if you look in the right places. Rebuilding the simpler import gearboxes at a transmission shop usually starts around $650 just for stock parts.
