Default Civic Type R

Ok here is a question that i have looked all over for an answer. What is the big difference between CTR (b16b) and an ITR (b18C5 - i think)
Is there really that big of a difference. i know that the ITR is def a faster motor. but the CTR revs a little higher.
I have a 2000 civic hatch and im making my final decision for my motor this week before i purchase it. Im looking at either LS turbo or a CTR. Which one since this is a daily driver is going to be more reliable. Any feed back is helpful.

CTR is more rare.

CTR has lower compression (10.8 compared to 11.1-JDM ITR)

The difference in displacement will also have an effect on the hp/tq numbers.

The main difference is displacement, the B16B has a shorter stroke.

The B16B is a waste of time and money unless you get off on the thought of a rare engine.

I could not agree more. $4500 for a motor that makes less power and torque than a $3500 B18C1 is kinda :loco:

Hey but you know people grow money on trees.
Most people just what to get things because its the cool thing.

I would never get a CTR engine vs a B18c1..Plus u could boost the B18c.
If you go with a B18c5 engine you cant boost it due to its high compression.

My cousin has a 97 hatchback, or is it 98....one of those. and has aB18c1.
Lets just say that thing is sick. A powerful engine for such a light car.

wrong. with the right tuning you can boost a b18c5 just fine.

true although the numbers would play in the favor that this person is just blowing alot of hot air arround anyways, and will really end up getting neither of the engines. not to mention someone getting ready to possibly drop about 4500 on a motor would probably have done enough research already and come to a decision, seeing that they were going to buy in the next week.

If my asumptions were wrong then I apologize, and I hope to see you post pictures of your motor in the next few weeks.

Ya, sadly, the 'not able to boost due to high compression' is a farse that is perpetuated by those unknowing and improperly educated by internet garble. You can boost an ITR motor with the right tuning and proper setup. It's not really the best choice due to a few specs that are not the best choices for boost - such as longer duration cams.
