Default Little help for the new guy

Hey guys, stupid question. My girlfriend just bought a 98 civic ex 5spd. I asked her if it was a v-tec and she didnt know. Is the v-tec a standard engine on this car?

yes the 98 ex has vtec

yes, it is a single over head cam, vtec engine... not as powerful as the dohc vtec...

Thanks guys.. since im clueless about the single over head cam variable engine timing controll..... does this just provide more HP as higher RPMs?
