Smog Fail Help!
did you run the car pretty hot before taking it to the testing station? Ill usually take my car on the highway for about 10 to 15 minutes before going to the station in order to warm up the CAT so that it can actually do its job. Again I wish you could give us some specific numbers to see exactly how far off were looking here.
Oh sorry for the late reply guys. Heres the actual numbers.
15 MPH - HC (PPM) - I got 141 and max is 92
15 MPH - NO (PPM) - I got 1698 and max is 716
I just picked up new plugs, cap and rotor, and new air filter. Oil was changed like 800 miles ago so that should be fine. Should I go ahead and get the cat done too? Its like 90 installed is that good? Let me know thanks.

I spent the extra to get the brass. Put that on today along with new plugs and air filter. The guy at the auto place suggested this one STP Jet Fuel bottle thing so I went ahead and bought it and im supposed to throw it in after a refuel. So my numbers are not that bad you say? Should I go ahead and get a new cat put on?
well those numbers on the NO are WAY high and thats partially due to the fact that you didnt heat your cat before going. however because of how high they are its not likely that those will drop below acceptable levels even after you do. I would suggest replacing your cat if you have the cash right now. I dont know whay your stock cat would be busted already unless you gutted it or you really have done something to your car besides a catback exhaust.
Oh I was talking about the new cat installed for 90, thats not bad, the NO#'s are mass high, and that is because you didnt heat up your cat befor you took the test... If I had the cash siting in my pocket, I would go get the cat, but if I didnt and wated my car to be legal, I would take it on the highway at 60-70 for about 10-20 min, and then when you get to the test place, let your car run, and dont shut it off, I usualy rev it up to about 1300 for about 1 min, every 5 min, if I am waiting in a long line...
The STP Jet fuel, is an octane booster... I blew up a lawn mower with one bottle.... Dont ask.... Anyways all it is is a mixture of Karosene and Desile (spell check its early...), thats what jet fuel is (or atleast JP-8)... Dont put it in there, it will be bad for the results of the test, if you did then I say drive your car 150 miles one way, turn around and go back 150 miles and you should be at about 1/4 tank or less... Atleast thats what my D16 gets... On the trip back go to the test place.

My '92 civic DX hatch just passed barely the emissions test in Ontario. 1st place had my NOx at around 1200ppm versus the limit of around 600ppm. For the 2nd test I used higher octane fuel and ran in higher revs all the way to the test facility. This time I barely passed. All my other numbers were within spec for the HC, CO, etc. My car has 377,000km or 265,000miles. I probably should have done a tune up. Oh well, I'm cheap.
