Default Automatic "technique"??

Ok i have a 95 civic automatic. I don't know if this is really a technique to use so it might just be stupid. Whenever I'm racing instead of just stomping my foot on the gas pedal(flooring it), I floor it but when I feel like its going to change gears I let off for a second and floor it again. I dunno...I feel like it accelerates much much faster than when I just floor it and dont do anything. Becuase when im just flooring it, it feels sluggish and its not accelerating fast enough but whenever i let off the gas and floor it, it kinda kicks in and starts accelerating.. I dunno this might be something stupid, because an automatic is an automatic and it wont ever be fast but im just wondering if anyone else does this or why this feels like its going faster?

yeah it should be safe since u're gettign off the gas, your lessening the load on ur torque convertor during a shift

sounds to me like hes pumping the pedal right before it goes into gear.

this thread is pissing me off already, and it started out so well.

Is it making the car go faster than if you were just flooring it?

its hard to say without times, but he's right...it does _feel_ faster to do it that way. acceleration curves start a little nicer into the new gear.

right...it "feels" like your going faster..but i doubt it...i wouldnt do that in any car....just floor it and thats it...why give it a delay in gas....i think it feels like that b/c when you let go from flooring it for that quick sec..the vavle are starting to close then you open them up again and it reacts like that.
