Default Who has done a H22 Swap?

Im going to do a swap into my 94 Civic EX, so I started doing research and, figured the B18 would be my best bet, but after alot of research, I am beguining to think the H22 would be better, if somone here has done it please inform me on how hard it is. The H22 is cheaper and has more HP... This is going to be for Drag racing only, no autocross, so more weight in the front is not that big of a deal... I know more about the H22 (had a 92 prelude) than I do about any of the B's. (Not sure if there is much of a difference..)

So if 2 people could reply (somone who has an H22) and somone who has a B18, and has done the swap into a 94 Honda Civic, please let me know what is all involved with the H22.

If you are going straight drag the H22 is you best bet but the B18C1 will be a easier. and will prolly cost less in the long run.

Why? The H22 has more HP stock and is a bigger block, I thought the H22 would have more potential, than a B series, Also the engine its self is cheaper, that makes it easyer to replace if it blows, I know the prep work is harder, but thats not such a big deal after its done, All I need is the Axels and the Mounts right? I was thinkin if I got a B series, and blew it up on the track, it will cost me more to replace than the H series..

see the thing is that the h22 is a prelude/accord engine, and it's a tight fit into a civic... that and it doesnt just bolt right in...
the h22 is heavier..... throws off the steering (so it is is pretty good for dragging.... straight line. you know)

now if i were you and you really wanted to do somthign cool i'd make a b20 toy for myself..... i think someone has one for sale here.... b20/vtec they're called, they have a larger displacement (2 liter) and a vtec head from a b16 or b18...... believe me.. sounds like this would be the route for you...
make sure that the block has been rebuilt.. then you're in for some power

blah blah blah,..throws off steering my ass,..thats just another myth with h22 civics,..ive built a few and trust me its not as bad as people say it is,...its not really a tight fit into a civic,..one of the main things you really need to worry about is getting axles that will not snap on you,..upgraded axles are highly recommended,..sure a b20vtec motor is a good and fun motor,..but a "stock" b20vtec motor usually puts out an average of close to 200 horses whereas the h22 puts out 220,..hasport sells mount kits that will bolt a h22 right into your 5th gen civic

I did some research, and the B20 is a cheaper motor, and what are you talking about DRfrank, I thought the H22 was bigger than a 2 liter? I wanted to go with a B20 because around here they seem easyer to find, and a little cheaper than other B's but one thing I didnt find was aftermarket parts, I couldnt find many for the B20...

It seems like the B20 would be a beter motor for drag, instead of the H22 or 23... The only thing is, will a B16 or B18 head bold right on to the B20 block? Also what will I have to do to swap in the B20?

no a vtec head will not "bolt right on". You'd need to do the same work that is done on ls/vtec (since its same engine, but larger bore)

LS head parts will fit on the b20 head.

not an H22 but ive done a f22b (the JDM DOHC H23 equivelent that came in non vtec JDM ludes) swap in a civic (well the mechanical part, wiring was done by someone else) and pretty much as straight forward as a b-series but you do have to cut the passenger side frame rail mount off and cut 2 big ass holes in your floorpan. if you can get over that than your good. i didnt have to worry cause itr wasnt my car (still came out good)

die grinders and air chisel are your best friend for these projects though
