super afc tuning question
I Have 95 civic ex and i have afc controler hook up. i have short ram intake and cam gear that is advance to 5 notches ported exhaust manifold spark plug wires. i just wondering how you guys have your afc control setting are at. because my o2 sensor is reading around 985 to 1000 mv, so if any could help that would be great. thanks

Kai is definetly right on that.
Dyno time is definetly cheaper then a new engine.
Basically what I'm looking for are some basic settings that others are running with the apexi super afc. Obviously I'm basically stock, couple of little bolt ons. I have a turbo kit ready to install but the afc is already on the car. I'm wondering how others go about tuning or if there are some basic settings to get me in the ball park of a correct state of tune for my setup. Yea takeing others settings and running them on a diff engine isn't the best idea, but with O2 readings around 1000??? This is normal to you guys? My buddy with a Grand Prix was saying that his O2's stay around 920-930 and thats a little rich but he's running a smaller pulley on his supercharger so it helps. I just want to get closer to where I should be before installing a turbo and would rather not play ignorant and just pay someone to tune my car for me when I'm perfectly capable of learnin myself, I just need some help.

well see, thats the thing. With dyno tune, it isnt something you can just DIY with the help of a handbook and some patience. You CAN'T do it without the propper equipment, and to try to would be stupid, unless your car isnt running anyway, or you don't like your motor in the first place.
Just wait, if its running rich then so be it, just wait til you get everything attached and spend money on a dyno tune session , noone will think your ignorant. It's just not worth it to screw up a motor because of impatience.
Someone will probably argue that you can kind of do it with a Autometer A/F gauge... they are innacurate as fawk, and I would trust my sense of smell before relying on them.
every car and every motor is different. even if you run at some pre set settings that someone else has...it still may not perform as good as what they dyno'ed at.
the best thing to do is wait until you are finish with all your modifications and then bring it to the dyno to get it tuned. i can tell you now..that with just bolt ons, dont expect any huge gains with just a A/F controller.

I understand the value of tuning a vehicle on a dyno. My purpose here is to get it running right without taking an all but stock civic and spening hundreds to milk out 10 horse. After I install the turbo is another story but for the time being, I have a snap-on scanner to work with and am just trying to attain some acceptable parameters to work with. I'm not saying ANYONE'S setting will be ideal for me, rather they just might get me in the ballpark of where I need to be. I don't have the money to buy parts and turn it over to someone else to install/tune for me, I'd like to learn. I just didnt' recieve any info with the purchase of this AFC and was wondering if anyone has ever installed one on a near stock civic and what settings they ran. I would be rather sad if I expected any major gains merely by changing my fuel mapping though. Sorry for the long posts just looking for some tech help on tuning.

Okay then, perform a system reset on the AFC, and keep those parameters, they are fine.
You really can't LEARN how to set up something as critical as a air fuel controller WITHOUT the propper equipment. Scan tool or not, it wont tell you nearly enough information , like a chasis dyno.

i agree. just reset the AFC to factory settings. it should read 0-0 or something similar.
without a chassis dyno...tuning with a AFC is pointless.

Sorry, I guess I was under the impression that when my buddy with the grand prix can use scanning software on his palm to create data logs of fuel curve, timing advance, O2 readings, and other sensor readings, graph these then use the data to tune with (yet hasn't "dyno-tuned" yet) I assumed that maybe someone else with a honda might have done the same thing, without a dyno, just with engine information about how its running throughout the power band while driving it, on the road. If honda's have to be tuned on the dyno then so be it, I was just hoping that maybe someone had figured out an alternate means of tuning. The problem being the AFC was tuned on my vehicle for another one and doesn't have a default setting for stock trim. If I can't data log or use any other means of tuning aside from spinning my tires on rollers and figuring out my o2mv from the power curve, then thats what I need to do. But any other idea's are welcome.
