Brake Pads - '04 Civic LX
Greetings everyone! I'd like to thank anyone who posts in advance for helping me out with this small issue/question. My brakes (after 7 months) have begun squeaking and I'm sure it's a sign the pads need to be changed. I'd like to replace the worn pads with ones of higher quality than the stock ones Honda has available. Being that I'm new to car altogether, what do you guys recommend I should get (the calipers and rotors are stock).
I think that is a bit soon to change pads, you might want to just try brake cleaners.
If you want to upgrade anyway, I've heard people have good results with AEM pads. I'd stray from any race type pad since I don't know if you need that type of performance or not.

chances are the squeeking is break-in crap. Usually you can go almost 50-60k miles with honda's original brake pads... I didn't have to do the first brake job on my car till around 70k...
5k miles is a joke.
on an LX normally driven, you don't really have a need for 'performance' pads.

It's not covered under the warranty (and I have the extended). Predictably so, they consider this type of thing normal wear and tear. They're charging me $240 for parts/labor; I promptly replied "No thank you!".
I'm not looking for racing/performance pads as I don't race, but I was hoping to get high quality pads that a)won't wear out as quickly and b)will provide me with additional braking ability (although I know this would be marginal as everything else is stock).
At any rate, I'll look into the AEM pads; thanks MaxBoosT.

Pads should last you a while, that's why I doubt that your brakes are going so soon (and as 18sec mentioned). I suspect just dust in there, I would first just spray it out with brake cleaner. Good luck!

that would be the only explination, as far as I see it.
your pads shouldn't be worn after 7 mo unless you drive A LOT, or abuse your pads A LOT. Take them out, clean them, and apply some anti-squeal goop to the back of the pads and on the shims. That should quiet them down. Its very easy to tell whether your pads are worn just by looking at them. When you take them out, I'm sure you'll find you have plenty life left in them.
When the time does come to replace/upgrade, I've found my axxis ultimates to be very effective and friendly street pads aside from a bit of dust (I don't wash my car anyway, so who cares).
