Default How much boost?

Hey guys - just out of curiousity, how much boost can a stock D16Y8 handle without blowing?

Depends on it's current condition, and the tuning. I wouldn't push past 5-6 PSI, without tuning. 8 PSI would be my limit with tuning before beefing up the internals.

Your question has been asked 100's of times, and it all depends on details...

Its got 110k miles on it, and its still running strong. Nothings ever gone wrong with the engine. (It was my dad's car...he doesn't drive very fast :screwy: )

cool. i think 5 to 8 is sensible, because you have to consider driveline too. it was made for about 110 or 120 hp (i think). give or take a few, but I'm sure you've already considered driveline, computer tuning, fuel system upgrades, and those kinds of things.

you can have a d16y8 running 200-220 whp on a really good tune (aka fuel management that can handle the amount of air the turbo brings to the motor..)
imagine having a turbo flow alot of air into the motor and not enough fuel... kaboom

there a car running say 5 psi with horrible or non existant tuning, would be less reliable than a 8-10 psi tuned motor...

How much would a good tuning help if i was upgrading to cold air intake from a stock intake? And how much would a good tune up help with just the stock intake? And how do I tune my engine? Thanks

Edit: All of the above is with no F/I
