Default Good write up for power steering delete?

Trying to do this by this weekend for the Northeast Divisonals. Anyone have a good write up to take out the power steering on a 6th Gen Civic Si?

Mike

just removing the lines? or converting it to a manual rack?

if you need it done ASAP. just take the belt off, and when you have time take the pump out and block the lines.

if i remember right.
there are 3 lines coming out of the steering rack.

one is the big thick one running down from your ps pump to the rack, and then there is one which comes from the rack and runs towards the front to the ps cooler, and if i remember right the 3rd one which is the smallest goes to the ps resevoir.

andy can point you in the right direction, but if i remember right you just have to run the two big ps lines into one another. and block off the last one.

before you run the two lines into one another it's a good idea to move the rack left and right, so you get all the excess fluid out of it, and then close the lines so when you do turn the wheel there isn't fluid squirting out.

i believe andy used a 3 way connector to run the lines into one another and a third line for excess fluid to run into.

i chose to swap the whole rack out and go with a manual rack.

quaiffe i believe makes quick ratio gears for the manual rack so you have better turning.

just harder to turn.

easiest and must hassle free way is to just pull the belt for the track, and then put it back on afterwards.

I actually heard you should leave the fluid in the lines, like maybe it lubricates the steering rack hub? Someone sells a PS delete kit.

there is still fluid in the rack.

you need to move it left and right to get some excess fluid out.

if you cap it off with too much fluid, it builds up too much pressure and it has jerky movement.

i know cause i did it, i had excess fluid squirting out of my engine bay

I did a conversion from manual to power steering. If youre looking into swapping out the rack the steps are nearly identical. http://repo.jackmoves.com/album119

disconnecting the belt will do that for you.

do you want to ditch the extra weight of the ps equipment?

if not, just disconnect the belt and go on your way.

Actually I would like to ditch everything, but how much weight savings am I going to save? To make sure which belt do I remove?

there are three belts.

first belt goes to the alternator, second belt goes to the ps pump, and 3rd goes to the ac condensor.

quick fix just cut the ps belt, if you plan to ditch it for sure
and that's it.

the ps belt runs from the motor towards the front of the car

i say you'll save 30+ lbs if you ditch the whole thing for a manual rack.

that's 30 lbs off the front the of the car.
