Hey guys,

got a problem, feel like a real newb on this one, but quite frankly, never had to touch my CVs or otherwise. Anyhow, picture below, basically, installing new suspension, managed to do something stupid and the fork on the strut pushed the boot down the axle, causing it to leak just a quarter sized bit of grease, and now I need to move it back up....but how is the question.

wned: you're going to have to pull the axle, remove the CV boot and repack the bearings. make sure to grease them a lot before putting the boot back on. it's a pain, but you can do it.

 

that doesn't sound like much fun. Umm, sure it's nescessary even if there was less than 1 oz of grease loss?

nevermind.. i read your post wrong.. :doh: i don't think you'll have a problem if you leave it as-is

 

I think so too, except, the "clamp" is not in that groove on the axle. Which, I believe will allow it to leak if I do not get it back to that groove. Any thoughts on how to coerce it back up the axle into the groove?

I really wish this wouldn't have happened, for a spring/shock install, this has been the biggest pita ever. I swear, I've had the worst luck :P.

let me guess..you snapped the heads off the rear LCAs?

 

nope.. biggest pain is when you actually seperate the CV joint.. then you have to pull the boot off and repack the bearings like i mentioned before.

 

nope, nothing happened to any of the bolts. I just had some issues because I didn't think to take off the LCA on the first time (and when I figured that out, it went real smooth like). Then, I realized that I had accidnetally forgoten the washer on top of the shock tower, so I had to take the mess all apart...blah blah. And then the CV boot thing.

I think I'm going to try a pair of plyers and a rag over the boot later on, and see if I can just motivate that clamp back into place nicely.
