Corrola: 130 hp
Sentra: 165 hp
Cavalier: 140 hp
Neon: 150 hp
Focus: 130 hp
Elantra: 138 hp
Mazda 3: 160 hp
Lancer: 120 hp
Ion: 140 hp

Now granted, I know most of these cars (ok, all of them except the Corrola) do not have Honda quality or reliability. However, the Civic would be second from the bottom on the list...thats kind of sad. They've fallen behind the curve. If they could bump their power output up to around 140 hp (which they could easily do with that 1.7L engine), they'd be back in the game.
I 100% agree no arguments there. I just don't know what Honda is thinking the civic is truly falling behind all of the competition I mean look at the new Si SCC rates it like almost last in every category in it's segment. This is really one of the cars that started the SCC trend and now it sucks.

Well in a way it's better that the cars are the way they are because the cost is cheaper to us. I mean I really don't know how much more they would add on if it was 140+ but we can easly make that car much faster. Ohh and don't forget Honda is the most sold car anywhere. So why change whats not f'ed up?

well i hate to say it but the Civic is first and foremost an economy car. So, from a cost-efficient point of view, what would Honda have to gain from a powerful, not-as-efficient car? oh wait, nothing.

They could increase the power and maintain the efficiency. The Civic's main competitior, the Corolla has more power and gets better gas mileage. You don't think a little more power would increase sales?

Or maybe Honda thinks that the Civic has enough aftermarket support to make it "faster" anyways... h:

It would be nice if the new Civics had about 160HP out of the box standard...

With i-VTEC (and Honda innovation) it's possible - take the CR-V for example. But again... mo $$$.
