Default 2nd gear grind/crunch! d16y8 trans. HELP!

No matter what i do with my 98 ex i have a second gear crunch when shifting hard! ive been driving stick for about 5 years and its something that started bout 2 weeks ago, never had this prob before... any ideas? bad synchro? i can tell you tho my clutch is on its way out, id say i have another 1000 miles to push on it. would my clutch being on its death bed affect it? i mean i know for a fact clutch pedal is smushed on the ground before i attempt to snap 2nd... dont have the prob in any other gear, i do have a dc sport short throw shit lever, which feels a little a loose, could this be the prob too? should i Gm synchromesh? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most likly it's your synchro. But I might be wrong from everything I have hear whenever your grinding it's nothing but synchros.

GM synchromesh would not fix it, but it can definitely mask it for a good long while. It's probably the synchros or a bent shift fork.
Go ahead and refill it with the synchromesh and see how it does. If nothing else, it can't hurt.

What exactly is GM syncromesh? I am having a problem with a 2nd gear grinding as well, and wondering if there is another fix besides getting a new tranny.

isnt it basically a lubricant that kinda masks the sound and helps the syncros work smoother?

Where can you get it? Do you just pour it in with the transmission fluid, or just change the fluid all together, and just put in the synchromesh instead?

It's manual tranny fluid that GM uses. It's much more viscus, and also thinner than motor oil. So, it's sticking to the gears and synchros beter, and light enough that it doesn't create drag. Works great.
