Default Quick spring question...

I purchased Ground Control Coilovers and installed them this past week and it is definately a LOT stiffer, but when I go over bumps, My wheels scrape in the wheel well. I have about 2 fingers between the tire and the wheel well. When I go over bumps it hits. So the question I have is...How long does it usually take for a spring to settle. I am gonna have it lower then it is now but I knew that the car has to settle and it will lower anyways, so thats why I have a lot more space between the wheel and well. I just want to know if thats why it is hitting even with the space. Are they still settling, and because of that they are bouncy and until they have settled, they won't be as firm? I'm just wondering the approximate time I should expect to wait before I should notice them getting more stiff. Thanks for the help!

What rates did you get? How old are your shocks? I've driven/ridden in at least 5-6 cars with GCs (some of them dumped to the ground) and none of them scraped or rubbed anything. Did you double-check that everything is installed correctly?

Rate..Im not too sure. I ordered them from a company and thats about it. They were meant for my car and when I looked on the GC website they were the correct application. They installed correctly and so did the tokico illumina shocks. I just installed those shocks a couple weeks ago before I installed the GC. I have 17's (205/40/17) so even If I wanted to dump it to the gound I couldn't cause the wouldn't fit in the wheel well. Well they could and did but when I installed the camber kits on my car they straightened up the wheels and won't go under now. The edge of the tires rub on the rubber lining just under the well from the outside when I go over bumps. I don't know if its cause I have 17's or if they still have to settle before they stiffen up or what. Thats why the question came up. I will take pics if that helps...

Springs do not stiffen when they settle after installation. Some springs will "settle" and gradually lower a little bit more than when they were installed due to better seating on the perches, compression from the weight of the car, etc. If anything, this will increase your rubbing.

To reduce the rubbing, you can raise the car up a little or roll your fenders.

Yeah, I know that if they compress they will lower the car and all I have to do is raise it up. That is simple... I have raised the car to avoid the rubbing but I don't want to raise it anymore then I already have otherwsie it will look stock which was the whole thing I tried getting away from. Also what do you mean by roll my fenders?

I just want to get it to where my ride is still yet comfortable. I was hoping that getting good shocks and coilovers my ride would be stiff and if I would go over bumps, my car would hold its height and wouldn't compress the springs and make me bottom out/scrape the wheel wells. I don't know...maybe I am doing something wrong. This is really starting to get annoying

Did you get the car aligned after you installed the suspension parts?

No, I havn't done that yet. I didn't want to spend the money to get it aligned just to have to turn around to fix something and then have to pay to get it re-aligned again...if ya know what I mean. I just want to get everything done and make sure everything is good before I get it aligned and have that be that. Would that make a big difference? I know it would cause the car to shake at high speeds and what not and cause bad tire wear but would that cause the car to bottom out even with 2, almost 3 fingers difference between the two?

your springs wont "settle." Settling is a characteristic of over-worn, over-burdened or poor quality springs... ground control only uses the best quality eibach race springs... If you've driven it around the block a couple times, its probably about where its gonna be.

If it rubs, it rubs. Sorry, thats just what happens when you lower a car on 17s :happysad:

BTW, if you just got the standard set, I'm pretty sure your spring rates are 375f/250r.

How do you recommend I set the shocks? Should I have the back set to 5 to be firm and the front set to say...3? Would that help out at all?
