Default This is why icicles suck!!!

Hi there everyone. Havent really posted much on this forum, been very busy with work. But winter is over now, and im really motivated to get some work done on my car(s).
Anyway the topic for this post has to do with what happened about 2 months ago. Living in WNY, we get a lot of snow and ice here. Well, an icicle built up on my roof (3 story house), and the only time i ever parked my car next to my house instead of in the lot in back, it dropped off and landed directly on the hood of my 94 DX, square on top of where the valve cover sits underneath. I'll let the pictures explain the rest

BTW, I got the new rad support in today, replaced both headlights, and replaced hood with the one from the car i bought last week (another DX coupe), Ill post pics of the fixed car later this week after hood and bumper are painted. Motor swap will be going in the second car, this red one is my daily driver so i cant afford to take it off the road for the swap. Any tips on b18a1 into OBD1 would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know if you own or rent but home owners Ins should cover it. There's always the deductible though . . .

I think that the force may have knocked the clutch master cylinder loose, cause i noticed fluid leaking inside from clutch. As for the insurance thing, homeowners company told me that because we own the property, its not covered, but if it was someone elses car it would have been covered. BS if you ask me, but i cant afford to take the insurance company to court, so i figured why fight it. I think i could have gotten something out of it, but i would have had to sue my father, lol.

Ask your dad if he has the policy declaration for the homeowners. Read through it and look for any language that may be relevant to this accident. If you scan in the policy and email it to me, I'll look through it for you. In situations like this, if you make yourself a big pain in the ass to the insurance company and continually write letters, they usually will buckle and settle with you. Also, the other quickest way to get them to bitch out is to have a lawyer you know (read: free) write them a letter in lawyer speak outlining the strong points of your case on official letterhead. Most of the time they will kiss your ass so fast you can't believe it. This is because they are afraid of a potential punitive damage case related to their denial of a legitimate claim. I don't know if you care about that at this point or not, but I thought I'd just offer my .02

We looked through the policy when it happened, and it says that any damage to a vehicle owned by the homeowner (or immediate family i think) would not be covered. Insurance is legal extortion at its best if you ask me. But the whole fix is only gonna cost me about $500 and some time. Not exactly chump change but Id rather just do it than fight it out with them. Thanks for the suggestion though.

YoU'lL ShOoT YoUr Eye oUt, KiD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not so bad once you replace the hood. Sometimes you're better not reporting it to an insurance agency if it's within your power to fix it. Every time you report a claim, no matter the cause, you change your status with EVERY insurance company. Not saying that you should be afraid to when you really need their help, but every time your name shows up in any report, they consider you a greater risk to themselves, and bill you accordingly. It's legal for them to do that based on a statistic of "accident prone" people, but exactly how hard you have to squeeze your ankles as a result of filing a claim is up to your State's laws. Fooking Ice-holes. I hate them.

A 86 year old man jumped a curb, hit a fire hydrant, then hit my car, hit 4 other cars, dragging parts of all of them 200 yards into a lake. I was in my bed asleep. My insurance rates increased by $556 a year with a homeowner's discount, and multiple car discount. I was nowhere near, much less driving the car that qualified me as having an accident. It counted as a not-at-fault accident, just like the other one I had when someone ran a red light and tore my front bumper off. Wrong place wrong time shit. I fall into the "accident prone" category now because of other people's carelessness.

Edit: I understand that it's your dad's policy, and it wouldn't affect your personal rating with an insurance company, persay. But someday you'll have to worry about these things when the policies are in your name. It could affect your dad's policy rates if you had a policy that covered that, and he'd eventually pay the cost of what they pay out. Probably 3x over. It sux, but that's how the insurance game works.

The damaged parts look easy enough to replace. 4 bolts for the hood, 2 bolts on the master cylinder & you're good to go. Isn't a B18A1 already a OBD 1 motor?

Note: No claims were ever filed to any insurance company on the first accident. The lady that hit me actually paid out-of-pocket for me to get my car fixed at the shop of my choice. The insurance company found out about it because of the police report, and whether a claim was filed or not, it counts just the same.
