changing rotors - check
hey i'm thinking about changing my rotors and pads, assuming that i'll have new rotors, new pads and new spindle nuts for my change, what else will i need, tool wise, part wise, and what should i look out for while doing this change. ie not breaking x and y because of z. 93 civic sedan, w/o abs
thanks
Frank
thanks
Frank
all that you pretty much have to do is take one of the bolts out from the caliper
-Lift caliper
-Take out pads
-Get screw driver
-Unscrew screws on rotor
-Take off rotor.
-To put back on follow those steps only in reverse.
Oh by the way, make sure to bleed your breaks

You shouldn't even have to remove the spindle nut. If the rotor doesn't have the bearing races in it (ie you just remove two pan head screws) the nut shouldn't need to come off.
You will also need to compress the cylinder in the caliper to allow the new pads to fit over the rotor. A c-clamp works well for this.
Also remember to spray the oil off of the rotor. New rotors are coated in oil to prevent them from rusting in transport.
Go to the store and buy a cheap Haynes manual. It will help lead you through the basic steps of fixing your car.

thanks man, i have a haynes but its in the trunk, i just looked at my helms and found some diagrams, for those who are playing at home, its 18-10, and it shows the spindle nut being labled with "replace", so i thought i'd enquire about it. :dunno:
only time i replace that spindle nut is when i change my axels. dont worry bout it.

Also becareful with the pan head screws. Regular screw drivers usually cannot get it loose. Sears has a manual impact driver for like $10. You just whack it with a hammer to get them loose.
