Modifying your stock lighting system as that it emits less light than the factory specs is illegal, but if it performs better than stock then it isn't illegal. That's where the confusion lies.

Basically the law says that your car can't perform worse than stock, only better in all aspects.

DOT cert is bull****, DOT doesnt cert anything.

blue headlights are illegal
HID's on non stock cars are illegal

and if HIDs on stock cars hurt peoples eyes you can still get a ticket

thats not necessarily true, as HIDs can harm other drivers vision in a night situation they are not legal on non stokc apps. Distractions to other drivers are usually more illegal than your own comfort.

It all depends on how they are aimed. The sad thing is that most people just slap them on and forget to aim them properly, as well as when they put on any new set of bulbs. Always aim after install.

I live on the south side of chicago and it seems like everyone from the ford taurus to the Toyota RAv 4 have those damn blue bulbs, and i have never heard of anyone getting aticket for it, i have heard of tickes for blue turn signals or those damn windsheild washer lights, but never for different collored headlights, especially stock HIDs. i know its different everywhere so thats my nieghborhood.

somebody need sto find a site with vehicle equipment laws...

anyways. i've never heard stories of people getting pulled for blue bulbs but then again there are REALLY blue bulbs and then there are very white ones. (btw, silverstarts come in h4s now )

HIDs imo look like cool blue bulbs or something just really white. I don't think anyone would have issues as long as you keep them pointed correctly and not blinding oncoming traffic.

and yet not that long ago i saw doctors commuting from schaumberg to the city on the fox news with video tapes of their $374 tickets for lighting violations, this was back at around XMAS, so they may have stopped now...but as i said, these people were PISSED.

FIBS get upset over anything anyway.
