well i cant describe the smell but it is bad like i said it comes from the explosive charg that goes off to inflate the airbag i belive it is explosive cuz they make a boom sound when they inflate
what is proper adjustment for the first point im about 5' 10" and i had it all the way down that gives it about a 45 degree angle coming off my sholder and it is the lap belt that keeps you down in the seat anyway the sholder belt just keep your face out of the steering wheel or the windshild depending

the belt will work much better if its sinched up real tight. I always sinch it up as tight as I can, sit upright, and try not to move around too much to loosen it. I do this just so it holds me in my seat better, but I suppose its a pretty good safety precaution too.
Something you might try is to move your seat back one notch, tighten up the belt as much as you can, then slide the seat back forward. That'll hold you in good'n tight
