Default Motor mounts are a pain!

I got two of them in before I had to go to work today. Much nicer feel, little more vibration in the steering wheel, but noticeable difference in acceleration. Actually broke traction when I usually just had wheel hop.

Now to get to the rear mount. Any suggestions for that one?

PM incublinkus. I actually wasn't there for this one, but we have an engine hoist and were moving the entire engine around in the bay in the first place. But hopefully he'll be able to be of some assistance.

to get the rear mount. westcoast gave me really good info.

on a gsr motor you remove the bracket that is connect to the underneath of the manifold.

after you remove that.
unbolt the t bracket. push it up over the mount a turn it to pop it off.

i did mine in the car with the engine. wasn't bad at all!

i don't think the b16's have a manifold bracket, so you probably won't need to remove anything.

the power steering lines and some pipes were in the way but i moved 'em easily.

what kinda of motor mounts inserts (or mounts) did you get?

Didn't know I helped you out. :chuckles:

It's not a piece of cake or anything, but it is doable. I've done 3 of these without any odd tools, hoists or having to jack up the motor.

Did youo get Prothane or ES Mike?

If you want some serious motor mount love, get the prothane kit too. Obviously you know, but the ES kit is just the front tranny/A/C/rear tortion mounts. The Prothane kit is the upper tranny/rear tortion/upper cam mounts and they are a lot stiffer than the ES kit.

The upper cam mount actually is an insert that fully replaces the innards of that OEM mount. It comes with a steet and a strip mount. The street is NUTS! :loco: I've never even ran the strip...

Just in case you want to go even further, there's always the J's Racing front tranny/A/C solid mount replacements. I'm not hardcore enough for those... I know Bumnah was though. h:

I think you mean the Jimfab mounts. I bought 'em about 3 days before I parted out the car. Never even installed 'em.

I practically just gave 'em away.

I hated the ES inserts for the front ones. Absolute junk. I broke one of the zip ties in like 2 months.

I'd recommend the jimfabs pieces over those any day!

My zip ties are gone too... I'm about to put some long bolts on there.

Oh great now I read this I was planning to see how the ES hold up, then maybe install the Prothane. Engine response is so much better now and I didn't install the rear one yet. Little bit more vibration in the cabin which is expected.
