Default dumb question

ok this is going to be probebly the dumbest question known to the car enthusiast world but i want to ask it. is it possible to have a supercharger AND a turbocharger on an engine?? the SC goes on the intake and the turbo goes on the exhaust side of the head, so why shouldnt we make it turboed and supercharged? this is just for personal reference..i dont want to try it but i just wanted to ask

The question needs to be asked: Why?

Just having a super or turbo doesn't create hp and overdoing it won't do anything but blow up an engine. If you know how both of the FI devices work, then you would understand the concept a bit better.

It's really not about creating insane amounts of boost, because that can be accomplished by either unit independently (smaller pully/bigger turbo & other factors). The only benefit that I can see from doing both would be something like have a sequential TT setup on a Supra. The SC would allow boost to be created right off the line from very low RPMs until enough pressure has built up so that the turbo can take over. The only problem would be 'telling' the SC to stop creating boost so that the pressure could be regulated.

I've thought about this before I actually owned a turbo and knew what the mechanics of it were.

Not a bad question...

Not a bad question...
they use an electromagnetic clutch on the wheel of the supercharger(when current runs through it pulls a flywheel against the pulley engaging it..with no current the flywheel disengages)...when the computer senses the turbo has spooled it cuts the current thus disengaging the pulley on the SC.
