Default Air / Fuel Ratio !!! Need Help

hey..

quick question about my air/fuel ratio ..

i remember today when i was racing this mustang GT, that in 4th gear, flooring it, this thing was on bright red all the way down, with vtec and boost on. should i trust that??? i know its hooked up to my o2 sensor thing a bobber in the oem ecu whatever.....

didnt notice any change in performance however or any knocking pinging and the engine is still running!! so ... same thing happens i get red "lean" in 3rd gear floored top end. starts around 4400 rpm and stays all the way through redline.

im figuring its just not an accurate reading or else the engine would have blown up a long time ago??

Unmodified VAFC

GSR motor, greddy 18G turbo kit

just wondering what you guys think.

Unless you're using a wideband O2 sensor the A/F gauge isn't going to be very accurate. It normally should go rich when you're WOT, but you're boosting so I dunno. I'm with you though, if you have been going lean something would've broke by now.

well it runs rich everywhere else... or so it says to me anyway..

im just going to buy the hondata.. and sell the VAFC APEXi which seems rather pointless to me right now.

I'm thinking, in the stock box, it would be running lean, but i have 310cc fuel injectors which should be more than enough with the bolt on greddy 18G with stock internals at only 6 psi.

let me know if anyone has any other ideas.. its a phantom air/fuel autometer

thank for the input

i never notice this but do you always type with the first letter of every word capitalized?

anyways,..at full throttle its the only time an A/F ratio gauge should be some what accurate,..adn the gauge should be pegged on the last green bar,...are you sure you got hte gauge hooked up right? its spliced into your ECU? i usually splice em into the o2 sensor on the downpipe

not 100% sure.. was installed when i bought it.. ill have to go check on where it was installed ...

also, i noticed that my apexi VAFC throttle is always at 0% .. however when i first start the car when its cold, it says 100%, and then slowly works it way down to 0 once its warm.. then stays at 0% .. anybody have any idea as of why? thanks

if i can get that to work then i can richen up the engine at higher rpm's with vtec and turbo..

until then..

no racing

Ok, here's the deal with factory (narrow-band) o2 sensors. They only work in a narrow range around 14.7 a:f (this is for best emissions and decent mileage at low power). If you are on the lean side of that at WOT, I'd be VERY worried. You should always be on the rich side of 14.7 at WOT (way in the green). I think you need a LOT of tuning if you are getting lean readings on the guage, and you should definitely NOT beat on it until you do.

ok good news

my apex vafc wasnt wired correctly. they were 1 wire off... so i did it right and bam just like that the throttle voltage was working great.

so.. now i can up the fuel during WOT and higher rpms until i get green :awais:

thanks for the input.. too bad i've been beating it for a few days now.. hopefully no major damage.. ill be much more careful until i get rock solid green.
