Default lowering clamps

heres the story. i have a set of 17's sitting in my garage right now but im waiting to put them on till i can get a good pair of springs or coilovers with shocks. i didn't want to throw the rims on and have the car sit high i wanted to drop it immediately but put the rims on first so i had an overview of how low to go. heres my question, im short of cash right now and wondering if i should just put some clamps on my springs to lower it until i've got the coilovers, would it be a waste of money on clamps and should i just wait till i have enough for some coils or springs?

DON'T DO IT!!! That's so dangerous man. It is just as bad as cutting springs and your ride will suck.

Please, don't endanger yourself just because of impatients.

clamps are FAR more dangerous than shitty/cut springs.... road vibration can break them or loosen them, causing them to release the spring instantly. Imagine if that happened while you were going around a turn in heavy traffic or on a mountain road or somethin... hello hospital. DONT DO IT!

good advice, since i enjoy living i'll go with waiting. i appreciate all your help. some guy was telling me to use clamps and that it was the cheapest and safest way as i thought to myself "then why isn't everyone using these clamps?"

man what a jackass.
my rims will wait then

thanks again.

With a set of 17's, I'd say go for a mild drop. About 1.8"-2.0" should be good. Anything lower, and you might experience problems. Of course this wouldn't be an issue if you're seriously considering on getting coilovers.

do you know what the offset is on the 17's? If its anything below 42mm you will almost certainly have rubbing issues with a 2 inch drop
