so why not calculate out how long it would take to get the price of the 6-speed tranny + installation back by saving $1 per fill up. (i'm guessing that about how much you will save and I'm being generous).

Damn good point.

Perhaps it might be worth it if (assuming a custom tranny) gears 1-5 were geared uber-short, like shorter than factory Si/EX. Then, 6th gear would be only a highway gear. Kinda like on the C5 Corevette...I read they get about 30mpg on the highway because 6th gear is so long.

actually, HASport just released a K-series to EK swap kit. It wouldn't be cheap, but theres a nice way to get a 6-speed into your car.
