Default lower tire psi when racing?

i'm running my stock 14's right now because they're much lighter than my 17's. i heard if you lower your psi you can get more/better grip? if so, at what psi should i do it?

when i went to the track i lowered it to 29 lbs. in my 205/40. but normal driving its at 35 lbs

As someone said depends on what racing you are doing. Track, 1/4, autocross, rally?
